A of The Boston Globe--Friday, August 13, 1965 Former Japan Premier Hayato Ikeda Dies at 65 TOKYO (UPI) Former Prime Minister Hayato Ikeda lied today at Tokyo University Hospital. He was 65. -Mr. Ikeda, who resigned as premier last October because a throat tumor, was ademitted to the hospital July 29 -for treatment of a pre-cancerous throat condition. His successor, Prime Minis-ter Eisaku Sato visited him at bedside shortly before his death.

Doctors at Tokyo University Hospital said Premier Ikeda, hag, Premier developed Ikeda succeeded pneumonia. in 1960 followthe leftist demonstrations against the planned visit to Japan of President Eisenhower. The demonstrations forced Kishi's resignation. Premier Ikeda was helped to victory in the power struggle that followed Kishi's resignation support of big business. Lewis, founder of Robert Lewis Foods. Born in Boston, she was educated at St. Ann's Academy, Marlboro, and Notre Dame Academy, Boston. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Lewis was a chief operator with the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co.
