Since the German company started dabbling into the SUV industry in 2002, it hasn't looked back since then. But this is not just your regular SUV but a rather more bougie version, the ritzy stuff.

Since the advent of SUVs, there have been many tweaks across automobile industries to introduce classier SUVs, and a family-friendly version. Volkswagen was one of three companies that heeded to that desire. The T-Roc is Volkswagen's third answer to that need since 2002. The Volkswagen Touareg, Tiguan, and T-Cross are the first, second, and fourth SUV series respectively for the automobile company.

As mentioned, these new assembly lines of vehicles are not your everyday SUV model. The Volkswagen T-Roc is a hybrid of class and cragginess, although there is a heavy tilt towards the former than the latter. That is why it is called the Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV).

CUVs have better interior comfort, do not cost a fortune to manufacture, have minimal fuel consumption, and have a lesser ability to tow other vehicles off the road. There will likely be a mass sale, so do not attempt to take your CUV to rocky terrain; it better serves its purpose on tar and asphalt. So, with that said, let's take a look at the T-Roc.

What You Already Know About The Volkswagen T-Roc

The Volkswagen T-Roc was introduced in 2017, exactly a decade after the Tiguan. Until the introduction of the T-Cross in 2018, it was the least expensive of the Volkswagen SUV series. Mass-produced in the northwestern part of Germany, Osnabruck, it also has its production line in Portugal and China. Although the convertible version of T-Roc or Cabriolet is the only type produced in Germany, it has sold very poorly.

It might be comparable to the Golf brand on the outside on so many levels, but the T-Roc does not lack luxurious space. So, if you want a sporty car that offers enough legroom and comfort, this is a prime choice—a family car through and through with enough seats to accommodate four members of the family comfortably.

For shorter distances, it can also accommodate a family of five. With a height of 1,573mm, the T-Roc can comfortably accommodate a 6-foot person. Although 4,234mm is long enough, it is not as long as the prior SUV version, the Tiguan. It has a width of 1,819mm.

There is no height issue with the T-Roc Cabriolet as the top can be lowered to enjoy the wind rush. It takes a mere nine seconds to lower the convertible top. The boot has a generous space of 445 liters with a lot of hidden storage underneath the floorboards. This is not comparable to the measly 380 liters in a Golf.

Exterior Design

The T-Roc exterior has an uncanny resemblance to the Volkswagen Golf, a far cry from the earlier versions of CUVs' crude hatchback. So, you have something more stylish and attractive. It also possesses a double-bar grille and a pair of short air intakes just below the headlamps.

Engine Specifications

Below the hood of the T-Roc is nothing fancy but an appropriate balance of speed and agility, a trait of all utility vehicles. It possesses three modes by which you can comfortably enjoy the ride: sport mode, eco mode, and comfort mode.

With an automatic gearbox with a 2.0-liter fuel for the highest specification of the brand. However, the size ranges from 1.0 - 2.0-liter fuel and 1.6 - 2.0 for diesel.

It has a BHP that ranges from 114 - 187, from the smallest specifications to the largest. However, the Volkswagen T-Roc R has an obscene brake horsepower of 296, which might not be too good as it will lose a lot of power due to friction.

Since its inception four years ago, the Volkswagen T-Roc has morphed into variants, and trust the Volkswagen company to continue to reshape these relatively new models. The 2017 edition lacked a little bit of taste as users were still trying to come to terms with the plastic interior and some semblance to the Golf, but it has evolved since then.

The awaited convertible, Volkswagen T-Roc cabriolet, introduced in 2020, never matched its expected success. The T-Roc R (a variation of Golf R) was known for its speed at 296 HP.

All signs point to the fact that the 2022 T-Roc model for the German company will not have any significant changes from the 2021 model, which possesses most of the specifications mentioned earlier.

There are few aesthetic tweaks that include a single-bar grille, a slight difference from the two-step or double-bar grille in previous editions, and just below the headlamps, a pair of air intakes different than the prior.

With all the artistic tweaks, Volkswagen has taken a more laid-back approach in terms of color variants but stuck with the former engine spec, which at 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol will lose power at 108 BHP or 128 BHP, a manageable figure. But unlike the former, where two variants of diesel type engine (1.6- and 2.0-liter) were produced, for the 2.0-liter unit only 148 BHP will be churned out. At a 350 Nm torque value, it won't be in the running for one of the fastest cars, but it has its own share of speed too.

There are many indications that the new 2022 Volkswagen will be a hybrid and work with electricity with a 13KWh lithium-ion battery. Some changes in the interior will involve a 10.25-inch screen that will provide information and entertainment on the go.

Ahead of the big reveal/launch in mid-2022, the full specifications and pricing will be made known before the year runs out.
